The Ghana Black Queens initiated their preparatory campaign for the forthcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) with a commendable 3-1 triumph over Malawi’s national team, the Scorchers, at the Ziaida Complex in Benslimane on Saturday.
Ghana established early dominance; however, a defensive oversight in the 15th minute permitted Malawi to seize the lead via a well-executed free kick by Ms. Sani Tendai.
The Black Queens responded promptly, with Ms. Doris Boaduwaa successfully converting a penalty in the 23rd minute, awarded following a foul committed against Ms. Alice Kusi within the penalty area. Ms. Boaduwaa further extended the lead eight minutes later by capitalizing on a loose ball outside the penalty zone, delivering a precise long-range strike.
In the closing stages of the match, with seven minutes remaining, Ms. Princella Adubea initiated a decisive run along the left flank, delivering an accurate cross which Ms. Boaduwaa met with a header to complete her hat-trick and secure the victory.
Coach Nora Häuptle implemented four adjustments to the starting lineup from the squad that competed against Ivory Coast in the previous month. Notably, Ms. Nancy Amoh of Ampem Darkoa was awarded her inaugural starting position, while Ms. Princella Adubea resumed her customary role on the right wing.
The Ghana Black Queens are scheduled to face Benin—who have supplanted Botswana as their forthcoming adversaries—in their second pre-WAFCON friendly match, set to take place on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.#newsafro_
