The 49th Ikoyi Club 1938 Ladies’ Open Golf Tournament, set to take place from November 13–15, 2024, in Lagos, will showcase the expanding talent in African golf. This prestigious event, sanctioned by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, brings together players from Nigeria, Zambia, Uganda, and the United States. With a theme of “A Taste of Nigeria,” the tournament will feature 120 amateur lady golfers, 17 professional lady golfers, and 100 male golfers. This gathering highlights the region’s commitment to growing the sport, fostering international camaraderie, and celebrating Nigerian culture.
Lady Captain of Ikoyi Club 1938, Fatumata Coker, emphasized that the 49th Ladies’ Open Golf Tournament aims to transcend sports by presenting an authentic showcase of Nigerian culture. “This event is not just a golf tournament; it’s an immersive cultural experience. We’re promoting golf, tourism, and Nigeria’s positive image,” Coker shared. Alongside the competition, attendees will experience Nigerian culture through traditional food, clothing, and entertainment, highlighting the event’s broader mission to celebrate and promote Nigeria’s heritage.
