Tom Hanks, aged 68, has articulated his perspective on what he considers to be the most challenging age to navigate, stating, “Life is such a burden!”
Tom Hanks has delivered unfavorable news to individuals in their mid-thirties, asserting that being 35 is “the hardest” age to experience.
The star of Forrest Gump, who portrays himself at various ages in his latest film Here, spoke openly about the challenges he faced at 35 during an interview with Entertainment Tonight on Friday. While promoting his upcoming movie, he remarked, “Look, I’m 68 years old; the hardest time for us was when we were portraying 35.”
Hanks elaborated on the difficulties associated with being 35, stating, “That’s the time when your metabolism stops, gravity starts tearing you down, your bones begin to deteriorate, and your posture changes—I think I’m in better shape now.”
When complimented on his appearance, the actor responded, “You know why? Because my kids are grown up, I’m getting decent exercise, and I can eat properly. You can’t do that when you’re 35. Life is such a burden!”
Hanks previously starred alongside Robin Wright in the 1994 romantic comedy Forrest Gump, where he portrayed the titular character and she played his childhood friend-turned-lover.
The official synopsis of Here describes the film as chronicling “multiple generations of couples and families who inhabit the same home over the course of a century.”
Employing a creative combination of traditional makeup effects and digital de-aging techniques, both Hanks and Wright adeptly transition between their teenage selves and their 80-year-old counterparts throughout the film’s extensive timeline.
In addition to Here, several of Hanks’ other films have incorporated digitally altered versions of the actor. Notably, a CGI representation of Hanks appears in the 2004 animated Christmas film The Polar Express, and he was digitally de-aged using AI technology in certain scenes of 2022’s A Man Called Otto.
Regarding Hanks’ appearance, he has recently cautioned his fans that advertisements featuring his likeness are not authentic. Instead, they have been produced using artificial intelligence technology.
