Comedian Bovi has shared his perspective on the ongoing fight for gender equality in the entertainment industry, asserting that women hold significant power in the sector. During a recent interview, he emphasized that women’s influence and contributions are pivotal to the industry’s success.
Bovi highlighted the strides women have made, particularly in positions of leadership and creativity, stating, “Women control the entertainment industry.” He acknowledged the challenges women face but noted that their resilience and determination have led to substantial changes.
The comedian called for continued support and recognition of women’s roles in entertainment, urging society to embrace equality and inclusivity. Bovi’s remarks reflect a broader conversation about the importance of female representation and empowerment within the industry.
In a recent appearance on TVC’s Your View, comedian Bovi emphasized the significant influence women have in the Nigerian entertainment industry. During the panel discussion, he pointed out that women often overlook their achievements in the fight for equality.
Bovi remarked, “Women need to understand that in areas where they are fighting for equality, sometimes they may have conquered, but because they are used to fighting, they don’t know that they’ve won.” He further asserted, “You talk about the entertainment industry and how it can help women. But I observed 10 or 15 years ago that women actually control the entertainment industry. So what are we talking about?”
His comments underline the need for recognition of women’s contributions and leadership in the industry, suggesting that the narrative around their fight for equality should also celebrate their existing successes.
Bovi further elaborated on women’s influential roles in shaping the Nigerian entertainment landscape over the past decade during his discussion on Your View. He highlighted prominent figures such as Amaka Igwe, Funke Akindele, and Mo Abudu, noting that they have been key players in the industry. He stated, “The biggest box office hit is a woman, Funke Akindele. The second biggest box office hit is also a woman, Mo Abudu. They are the biggest producers. Bolanle Austin-Peters is one of the biggest producers. Jade Osibero is one of the biggest directors since Kemi Adetiba. The biggest film festival is by Chioma Ode. So what are you saying?”
Bovi emphasized that women have made significant strides and have already won their fight for equality, mentioning other influential names like Omoni Oboli, Uche Jombo, and Genevieve Nnaji. He remarked, “So you need to understand that women are running the entertainment industry. So when I see young girls complaining about male producers demanding sex for roles, I’m like, ‘Yes, it’s true. But who have you cried to? Who have you spoken to? You own the industry.’”
His comments serve to remind young women in the industry of their power and influence, urging them to leverage their positions rather than focus solely on the challenges they face.
