Shannon Amos, daughter of John Amos, has raised concerns that her father’s will may have been altered without the family’s knowledge. This allegation has sparked a legal dispute regarding the validity of the amended will and the circumstances surrounding its change. Shannon asserts that the modifications were made without proper notification to the family, leading to suspicions about the integrity of the document. As this situation develops, it highlights potential issues related to estate management and familial trust.
John Amos, the actor renowned for his performances in Roots and Good Times, passed away on August 21, although the news was not made public until October 1. Family members revealed they were unaware of his passing until the media reported it.
In a joint statement, several family members, including his daughter Shannon and goddaughter Amy Goudy, expressed their concerns that Amos’ son, KC Amos, had allegedly isolated the actor from the rest of his family. This situation has raised questions about the dynamics within the family and the circumstances surrounding Amos’ final days.
Shannon Amos is now speaking out further, alleging to Newsafro.com that she believes her brother KC, along with her father’s purported publicist, Belinda Foster, and Eugene Brummet, were involved in changing John Amos’ will prior to his death.
While KC has yet to publicly respond to these allegations and has not posted on his Instagram or TikTok accounts since August 13, Belinda Foster has disputed the family’s assertions. The unfolding situation raises significant concerns about the legitimacy of the will and the familial relationships involved.
Shannon Amos has expressed her concerns regarding the legitimacy of Belinda Foster’s role as her father’s publicist, noting that the family could not locate any official documentation naming her as such. She alleges that KC, Foster, and Eugene Brummett were living with John Amos at the time and characterized them as “grifters” who entered her father’s life at her brother’s request.
Shannon claims, “We believe that the three of them conspired together to take advantage of my father, who was diagnosed in 2016 with Alzheimer’s and Lewy body dementia,” emphasizing that she has documented evidence from the hospital regarding his diagnosis. Despite this, she stated that her father had shown improvement and was “doing really well until about 2022,” at which point the family noticed he could no longer care for himself.
At that juncture, she alleges that KC moved in and began making accusations that a caregiver was stealing money from their father. Notably, Shannon revealed that her father was cremated just nine days after his death—a fact the family learned only recently. When questioned about the motivations behind excluding her and the rest of the family from the process and the swift cremation, she suggested there are “many reasons” at play.
She further criticized the decision to transfer her father to a hospital in Inglewood instead of Cedars-Sinai, where she believes he should have received care, noting that it made “no sense.” Shannon indicated that the family intends to “seek a police investigation” and disclosed that she heard from her father’s primary caregiver that KC allegedly withheld medication when he moved in.
Shannon Amos revealed that her father was also battling cancer and was scheduled for treatments that ultimately did not occur. When asked about the status of John Amos’ will, she stated that her uncle was responsible for managing his estate and had to draft five different wills due to KC’s interference. She claimed that KC would convince their father to sign documents, effectively nullifying previous arrangements.
Shannon further asserted that her uncle was “constantly” required to redo the wills and produced a statement from her brother that she said she “made him sign” after their mother’s passing. This statement allegedly acknowledged that KC “knowingly manipulated” their father, leading to changes in the wills, and stipulated that he could not have their father sign any documents without family presence—a condition he allegedly violated.
While KC has not publicly responded to these allegations, Belinda Foster issued a statement to People denying the claims. She asserted, “I represented John Amos for over 30 years as his publicist of record. The media knows this along with John’s agencies of record. Over the years, we grew close to one another to the point of a familial relationship.”
Foster noted that in recent years, John often referred to her as his “daughter” and emphasized that there was no deception involved among herself, KC, or John. “Shannon’s claims that John was abused are false. K.C., Eugene, and I, along with numerous others cared for him,” she stated, countering Shannon’s allegations of elder abuse made in 2023.
Foster concluded by mentioning that law enforcement had previously assessed John’s well-being on several occasions when Shannon raised concerns about abuse.
Belinda Foster further asserted that the elder abuse allegations made by Shannon in 2023 were the reason KC did not inform the family about John Amos’ passing, as doing so would have breached a court order. “At the time of John’s passing, K.C. was under a strict no-contact order from the Superior Court of New Jersey based on the Complaint that his sister Shannon brought against him in 2023,” Foster stated.
She elaborated that, as a condition of his pretrial release, KC was prohibited from making any contact with Shannon—whether directly or indirectly—through phone, social media, or any other means of communication.
Foster claimed that John was concerned Shannon might turn his death and funeral into a spectacle, as she allegedly had with other aspects of his life. “It was John who requested the delay in announcing his death to Shannon and the rest of the world,” she insisted.
Expressing her regret regarding Shannon’s actions, Foster stated, “I am sorry Shannon has chosen this path.” She added that medical authorities had interviewed John within the last year and deemed him to be mentally sound.
In closing, Foster emphasized the importance of preserving John’s reputation as a talented actor and community activist, expressing hope that they could put to rest what she described as “nonsensical claims” stemming from Shannon’s pain due to her estrangement from her father.
