A reality TV star was nearly unrecognizable at the 76th annual Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday night.
Red carpet observers were left perplexed by the former competitive ballroom dancer who commanded attention at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
Wearing a skintight red mini dress, the Boston native presented a markedly different appearance from her look at last week’s MTV Awards, where she emulated pop sensation Chappell Roan. With enhanced lips, ample cleavage, and extensive body art, the Drag Race Season 16 finalist intrigued fans with her transformed look. Any guesses on her identity?
The individual is Plane Jane from Season 16 of RuPaul’s Drag Race, born Andrew Vladimir Dunayevskiy. Plane Jane, who finished third, developed a reputation as the season’s villain, a role she reportedly embraced.
In the second episode, Plane Jane impressed the judges with her performance of her debut single, Burger Finger, winning the talent show challenge and securing immunity by outperforming Geneva Karr in a lip-sync showdown. Early in the competition, Plane Jane gained notoriety for giving unsolicited advice and critiques, which often appeared condescending despite her claims of ‘helping’ her fellow queens.
Plane Jane headlined a star-studded event at the Emmys, which will be hosted by Eugene Levy and Dan Levy, marking the first time a father-son duo has emceed the ceremony. The Levys, who won their own Emmys in 2020 for their work on Schitt’s Creek, a series they created and starred in for six seasons, expressed their excitement in a statement to Vanity Fair. “For two Canadians who won our Emmys in a literal quarantine tent, the idea of being asked to host this year in an actual theater was incentive enough,” they remarked last month, confirming their hosting role.
The pair added, “We’re thrilled to be able to raise a glass to this extraordinary season of television and can’t wait to spend the evening with you all.”
