According to Furedi, the movement’s critique and re-evaluation of the past have created an environment of constant conflict and division, making it challenging to find resolution or peace.
In 2007, I encountered a situation where a woman at a hospital asked if I was the “carer” for someone I was with. When I clarified that I was her son, she insisted that I was a “carer.” Later, an administrator explained that “carer” was preferred for its inclusivity over terms that denote specific family relationships, such as mother and son.
This experience marked, for me, the beginning of a broader Culture War. It represented an encroachment of language that disregards historical and traditional contexts, challenging and undermining deeply cherished values and personal relationships.
