Kyle Walker has opened up about how his father would ‘reduce him to tears’ after every football match, reflecting on his challenging childhood in a candid interview. The 34-year-old professional footballer, who was raised on the Lansdowne Estate in Sheffield, discussed how his council estate background has shaped his own approach to parenting. Walker expressed his desire to instill some of those experiences into his own children.
It was gathered that he shares four sons with his wife, Annie Kilner—Roman (11), Riaan (7), Reign (5), and four-month-old Rezon—and also has two children with Lauryn Goodman: son Kairo (4) and daughter Kinara (12 months).
The sportsman admitted that, although he once ‘hated’ his father’s parenting style, he now adopts a similar approach with his own children, refusing to let them win during football games in the garden. In an interview on the BBC Sounds podcast You’ll Never Beat Kyle Walker, he explained, “My dad, I used to hate going to football with him. No matter how well or poorly I played, I’d get in the car and be reduced to tears.”
