Nollywood came together to mourn the passing of actress, producer, and filmmaker Allwell Ademola, who died on December 27, 2025, at the age of 49, reportedly from a heart attack.
Ademola was laid to rest at Atan Cemetery in Yaba, Lagos, following a solemn ceremony that left many attendees emotional. The funeral proceedings began on January 8, 2026, with a candlelight vigil held at the LTV 8 Complex in Ikeja, Lagos, attended by family, friends, colleagues, and fans. Prominent Nollywood figures present included Liz DaSilva, Rotimi Salami, Biola Adebayo, Saidi Balogun, Kunle Afod, Iyabo Ojo, Wumi Toriola, Odunlade Adekola, Fathia Balogun, and Afeez Abiodun. Many guests wore custom white T-shirts featuring Allwell’s portrait in tribute.
During the vigil, Rotimi Salami, considered one of Ademola’s closest friends, delivered an emotional eulogy, recalling her support in navigating Yoruba Nollywood and urging attendees to preserve her legacy. He stated, “If there’s anyone Allwell has offended, directly or indirectly, please, forgive her and keep praying for her. Even if she’s gone, let all that she has done stay with us and be with us.”
Actress Abiola Adebayo also shared heartfelt memories, reflecting on Ademola’s warmth and the small, thoughtful gestures she made, such as creating videos and taking photos with friends.
Ademola’s brother took the opportunity to issue an apology to actress Iyabo Ojo for comments he had made in December 2025, criticizing colleagues for what he described as insincere tributes after his sister’s death. He clarified that his earlier statements were not directed at Ojo personally. Ojo, in turn, affirmed that she had supported Ademola during her lifetime.
The gatherings and tributes highlighted both the emotional impact of Ademola’s passing and her enduring influence on Nollywood, as colleagues and fans reflected on her contributions to the industry.#newsafro_
