Pastor Chris Okafor, a Lagos-based cleric, has declined to comment on allegations made publicly by actress Doris Ogala, who claims that he promised to marry her and other women, including members of his congregation, but ultimately married a different individual.
Ms. Ogala, in a post that has since been deleted, shared what purported to be an image of Pastor Okafor in a private setting, asserting that it was evidence of a prior intimate relationship. She indicated that a full video would be released to substantiate her claims.
The allegations arose in the context of Pastor Okafor’s recent marriage to a woman identified as Pearl, which took place despite the ongoing public assertions by Ms. Ogala regarding alleged emotional manipulation, betrayal, and a broken promise of marriage. According to Ms. Ogala, her alleged relationship with Pastor Okafor spanned several years, beginning in 2017, during which she purportedly ended a prior marriage at his suggestion and suffered emotional distress following the abrupt termination of their relationship.
In interviews with Saturday Beats and media personality Daddy Freeze, Ms. Ogala described the relationship as “deeply affectionate,” asserting that it continued from 2017 to 2019, and claimed that she was fully acquainted with his family during that period. She further indicated that the relationship involved access to financial resources, which she alleges were later withheld upon his engagement to Pearl.
Ms. Ogala’s colleague, identified as Digidi Dunhill, asserted in a video that she had attempted self-harm. Additionally, Ms. Ogala publicly shared a formal demand letter issued by her legal representatives, Synergy Law, seeking ₦1 billion in damages from Pastor Okafor for breach of promise to marry, emotional distress, and reputational harm. The notice provides a 21-day period for compliance, failing which court proceedings may be initiated.
Separately, a video circulated online featuring an individual identified as Benita Ahane, purportedly the sister of Ms. Ogala’s former spouse, Kingsley Ayanwu, alleged that Ms. Ogala’s prior marriage failed due to her personal decisions regarding childbearing. Ms. Ogala has disputed the authenticity of the individual in the video, asserting that the person was impersonating her ex-husband’s sister and called for legal recourse.
Despite the controversy, Pastor Okafor proceeded with his traditional and white wedding ceremonies with Pearl in Lekki, Lagos, on December 16, during which both parties expressed public affirmations of their union. Media coverage and social media posts documented celebratory events, including the couple’s proposal, traditional engagement, and wedding festivities.
All attempts to reach Pastor Okafor for comment were unsuccessful. Phone calls to numbers listed on his church’s social media platforms were unanswered, and messages sent via WhatsApp were delivered but did not elicit a response at the time of reporting.#newsafro_
