Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ogbon-Inu Taiwo Popoola has been reported deceased in Ebonyi State.
A confidential source within the Nigeria Police Force, speaking to PUNCH Metro on Thursday under condition of anonymity due to lack of official authorization, stated that the incident occurred at approximately 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday while ACP Popoola was attending a management meeting at the Command Headquarters in Abakaliki.
Until the time of his passing, ACP Popoola served as the Officer-in-Charge of the State Intelligence Department. During the meeting, he reportedly experienced acute respiratory distress, manifested by gasping for air.
According to the source, he was immediately transported to the Police Medical Center located at the Police Headquarters in Abakaliki, where he received urgent medical attention. Despite resuscitation efforts, medical personnel pronounced him deceased. Preliminary findings from medical examination indicate that the cause of death was cardiac arrest secondary to hypertensive heart disease.
The remains of ACP Popoola have been conveyed to the morgue of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital in Abakaliki.
The Police Public Relations Officer for Ebonyi State, DSP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the incident in a telephone interview, stating: “Yes, one of our officers experienced a medical crisis during a meeting and was rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately, he did not survive. He exhibited no prior signs of illness; otherwise, he would not have attended the meeting.”
DSP Ukandu further affirmed that the late ACP Popoola was a committed and professional officer who served the Nigeria Police Force with dedication and integrity.#newsafro_
