According to Spotify’s 2025 Wrapped data for Nigeria, the collaborative single With You by David Adeleke, professionally known as Davido, and Omah Lay, ranked as the most widely shared Nigerian song across digital platforms during the year. The track reportedly achieved the highest frequency of forwarding and re-posting in both private and public online spaces.
The report emphasizes that music functions as a significant social connector within the Nigerian context. Spotify noted that the act of sharing music serves as a symbolic gesture, enabling users to convey sentiment without direct messaging, effectively functioning as a “personal handshake in song form.”
Other top-ranking songs included Rema’s Fun, which occupied the second position, notably circulating on Instagram and Snapchat, platforms where music sharing was linked to self-expression and identity presentation. Burna Boy’s Love placed third, with extensive dissemination via Snapchat, Instagram stories, and WhatsApp, fostering shared emotional experiences among listeners.
Faith-based tracks also featured prominently, with Lawrence Oyor’s Favour ranking fourth and No Turning Back II by Gaise Baba and Lawrence Oyor ranking fifth. These songs were frequently shared through WhatsApp groups, SMS, and social media story feeds, serving both encouragement and spiritual purposes.
Spotify’s data further indicated that social listening—through blended playlists, friends mix, and collaborative playlists—contributed to the transformation of music consumption into a communal ritual. Jam sessions reportedly increased by 145 percent in Nigeria from 2024, with participants leveraging real-time listening as a means of bonding.
The report concludes that music sharing in Nigeria functions not merely as a medium for auditory consumption but as a tool for community-building, identity expression, emotional upliftment, and social cohesion. Industry observers highlighted that the observed patterns of sharing account for the differential propagation of songs, illustrating music’s role as both a social glue and a mirror of collective mood.#newsafro_
