Nick Cannon is opening up about his approach to parenting—and it’s sparking plenty of conversation online.
During a recent appearance on The TMZ Podcast, the 45-year-old TV personality discussed how he handles dating rules for his 15-year-old twins, Moroccan and Monroe, whom he shares with ex-wife Mariah Carey.
Cannon revealed that while he has allowed his son Moroccan to start dating—and even encourages it—his daughter Monroe is not given the same freedom.
“My son been dating and I’ve allowed it,” he explained. “I’ve encouraged it.” But when asked if Monroe has the same opportunity, he admitted plainly, “No, absolutely not,” acknowledging it as a “double standard.”
The Masked Singer host went on to explain that his protective instincts are stronger when it comes to his daughter, saying he feels the need to shield her from certain risks he believes young girls face in dating. At the same time, he said he views his son’s experience differently as he navigates relationships.
Cannon also expressed that his biggest fear is someone hurting Monroe, adding emotionally that he would react strongly if that ever happened. However, he stressed that he is trying to prepare her for adulthood by encouraging open conversations about dating, trust, and decision-making before college.
He also shared that he and Monroe have discussed conditions for her future dating life, including her being able to clearly explain her plans and expectations. He joked that her twin brother might even accompany her on dates, though he made it clear he is still very protective.
His comments quickly stirred reactions on social media, with users divided—some agreeing that parents often treat sons and daughters differently, while others argued that both twins should be given equal rules and trust.
The discussion comes shortly after Cannon celebrated Moroccan and Monroe’s 15th birthday, sharing a family outing to Six Flags on Instagram, complete with birthday cakes and heartfelt messages.
As always, Cannon’s candid parenting style continues to fuel debate about modern family dynamics, boundaries, and how teens are guided into adulthood.#newsafro_
