On Monday, Mariah Carey, aged 56, publicly announced her scheduled performance for the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games, to be held in Milan, Italy. The announcement was disseminated via a video posted on Ms. Carey’s official Instagram account.
In the video, Ms. Carey was attired in a fitted, low-cut red dress complemented by a diamond necklace. She addressed viewers in both English and Italian, stating: “Ciao! Get ready for Milano Cortina 2026. See you at the Stadio San Siro on the 6th of February for the Olympic Opening Ceremony. Ci Vediamo a Milano.” The closing phrase, reiterated in the accompanying caption, translates to “See you in Milan.”
The official Milano Cortina Instagram account subsequently released a promotional poster referencing Ms. Carey’s well-known Christmas composition, All I Want for Christmas Is You, in conjunction with her participation in the Olympic ceremony.
This announcement follows Ms. Carey’s recent performances in Las Vegas, including her Christmastime special at Park MGM’s Dolby Live Theater on November 28, where she presented a three-act show featuring holiday hits and selections from her latest album, Here For It All, released in September. The album, her first in seven years, received generally favorable reviews but recorded the lowest sales figures in her 35-year career, exiting music charts after approximately three weeks.
Ms. Carey routinely promotes her mid-1990s Christmas album, Merry Christmas, during the holiday season. To commemorate the 30th anniversary of this album in 2024, a deluxe digital edition was released, including a remastered recording of her 1994 concert at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. Ms. Carey expressed gratitude to her audience, noting the album’s continued significance in holiday celebrations.
Additionally, on Monday, Billboard confirmed that All I Want for Christmas Is You returned to the number one position on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Ms. Carey celebrated the milestone via Instagram, acknowledging the song’s RIAA certification of 18× platinum and its record-setting status as the longest-running number-one single in the chart’s 67-year history.#newsafro_
