In an unexpected development, recording artist Keith Urban rendered a cover performance of Chappell Roan’s LGBTQ-themed composition, Pink Pony Club, during an event held on Saturday at former President Donald J. Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort. According to reporting by Them, Urban, aged 58, appeared on stage as part of a function hosted by Australian businessman Anthony Pratt, aged 65.
The outlet referenced video footage circulating on social media depicting Pratt and former President Trump seated together at the Florida property. Pratt has previously announced an intention to invest approximately $5 billion in support of American commercial activity and was, in the prior election cycle, a donor in the amount of $10 million to Trump’s reelection campaign.
Urban, a Grammy Award–winning musician, has been the subject of increased media attention following the public disclosure in late September of the dissolution of his 19-year marriage to Nicole Kidman, also aged 58. The parties share two minor children: Sunday, aged 17, and Faith, aged 14. During the same Mar-a-Lago appearance, Urban additionally performed a cover of Bob Marley’s 1978 recording Is This Love.
Recent performances indicate that Urban has incorporated Pink Pony Club into his regular concert repertoire. The work was originally released in 2020 at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and was later reissued on Roan’s 2023 album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess. Roan also performed the track at the 2025 Grammy Awards. The song narrates the experience of a vocalist forming social connections at a gay bar in West Hollywood, California.
Urban previously stated in an April interview with the Canadian broadcast program Intimate and Interactive, as cited by Them, that the song’s themes of acceptance and inclusion were emotionally significant to him. He remarked, in substance, that individuals universally seek environments in which they feel safe and understood, and that the song’s message resonated with his personal worldview.
Them further reported that Urban had previously been questioned in 2017 regarding his willingness to perform at the White House during the Trump administration. Urban responded that he supported contributing to his country as a citizen and would address such a request if and when it arose.
An unnamed source, speaking earlier to the Daily Mail, addressed circumstances allegedly contributing to the marital strain between Urban and Kidman, noting that the parties’ respective professional commitments often kept them geographically and temporally apart. The source suggested that while reconciliation remained possible, the couple’s current circumstances did not resemble a traditional marital partnership.
Urban is scheduled to perform at the Country Music Association Awards on Wednesday evening, to be broadcast live from Bridgestone Arena in Nashville at 8/7c on ABC and Hulu.#newsafro_
