Earlier this week, Ms. Gwyneth Paltrow was featured on the social media platforms of the technology company Astronomer, appearing in the capacity of a temporary spokesperson in the wake of a widely publicized internal controversy involving two of the company’s employees.
Subsequently, Ms. Amy Odell—the unauthorized biographer of Ms. Paltrow and author of the forthcoming publication Gwyneth: The Biography, scheduled for release on July 29—publicly commented on the matter, speculating as to the financial compensation Ms. Paltrow may have received for her participation in what has been characterized as a publicity initiative.
In a video shared via Instagram on Saturday, Ms. Odell stated: “I just wrote a book about Gwyneth Paltrow. I have exclusive information about what she’s earned from past endorsement deals,” suggesting that her analysis was informed by prior earnings data related to the actress’s commercial engagements.
Ms. Odell referenced specific prior engagements to support her estimation, noting that the Academy Award-winning actress was compensated approximately $1.6 million for a cameo appearance at the Red Sea International Film Festival in Saudi Arabia. Additionally, she stated that Ms. Paltrow received $250,000 for attending a Skims launch event in late 2023, where she helped promote the brand’s collaboration with Swarovski.
DailyMail.com has reportedly contacted representatives for Ms. Paltrow seeking comment regarding her potential remuneration for the Astronomer campaign; however, no response had been received at the time of publication.
Ms. Amy Odell, unauthorized biographer of Ms. Gwyneth Paltrow, further elaborated on the actress’s prior endorsement arrangements, stating that Ms. Paltrow entered into a significant agreement with Swarovski, under which she received approximately $1.25 million in exchange for wearing the brand’s products a specified number of times. Ms. Odell also asserted that the actress had secured multi-million dollar compensation for endorsing additional commercial entities, including the brand Copper Fit.
In the caption accompanying her Instagram video reel, Ms. Odell—who also authored a biography of Vogue Editor-in-Chief Ms. Anna Wintour—posed the rhetorical question: “What do you think Gwyneth earned for this? My guess as her biographer is: a LOT.” She concluded by promoting her forthcoming book, stating: “Get my Gwyneth book at the link in bio.”
The renewed interest in Ms. Paltrow’s commercial activities follows a viral incident involving Mr. Andy Byron, Chief Executive Officer of the software company Astronomer, who was observed engaging in a romantic interaction with Ms. Kristin Cabot, the company’s Head of Human Resources, during a Coldplay concert on July 16. The event prompted a flurry of attention on social media, in part due to the awkward reaction of those involved.
Mr. Chris Martin—lead singer of Coldplay and former spouse of Ms. Paltrow—addressed the couple from the stage, quipping that they were either “having an affair” or “very shy.” The incident ultimately led to the resignations of both Mr. Byron and Ms. Cabot from their respective roles at Astronomer.
Previously a relatively obscure software company that provides workflow solutions for businesses, Astronomer experienced a dramatic surge in public attention as a result of the viral moment. In an apparent attempt to address the ensuing public relations fallout, the company enlisted Ms. Paltrow to appear in a satirical video published across its LinkedIn and other social media platforms.
In the video, Ms. Paltrow—dressed in a blue shirt and accompanied by generic corporate music—stated:
“Thank you for your interest in Astronomer. Hi, I’m Gwyneth Paltrow.”
She continued:
“I’ve been hired on a very temporary basis to speak on behalf of the 300-plus employees at Astronomer. Astronomer has got a lot of questions in the last few days, and they wanted me to answer the most common ones.”#newsafro_
