A member of the legal team representing convicted evangelist Ms. Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, has confirmed that the High Court in Amasaman has denied her application for bail pending the determination of her appeal.
Speaking to Citi News on Tuesday, July 15, counsel Dr. Bernard Kofi Asamoah acknowledged the court’s refusal to grant bail but emphasized that appellate proceedings would continue. “We sought bail pending appeal, which the court declined. However, the court has directed the Circuit Court to transmit all relevant records pertaining to the appeal. We will proceed accordingly with the appellate process,” he stated.
The bail application followed Ms. Asiamah’s sentencing on July 3, 2025, by the Accra Circuit Court, presided over by Her Honour Justice Evelyn Asamoah, which resulted in a custodial term of 15 years. Ms. Asiamah was convicted on charges including defrauding by false pretences and engaging in charlatanic advertisement.
Her defence team contends that the trial was compromised by procedural irregularities and alleged judicial bias, further asserting that the custodial sentence was unduly severe and unjust. On July 7, lead counsel Mr. Richard Asare Baffour confirmed that a formal appeal had been filed with the High Court, seeking to set aside both the conviction and the sentence.
Despite the High Court’s dismissal of the interim bail application, Dr. Asamoah reaffirmed the legal team’s commitment to exhausting all legal remedies available to their client.
Ms. Asiamah, a former traditional priestess turned evangelist, remains in lawful custody pursuant to the sentencing order issued earlier this month.#newsafro_
