Friends star David Schwimmer has publicly criticized what he perceives as the hypocrisy of certain Hollywood colleagues, condemning their silence on a matter he considers reprehensible.
David Schwimmer, 58, best known for his portrayal of Ross Geller on Friends, delivered a speech at the Anti-Defamation League’s Never Is Now conference in New York City on Tuesday, urging his industry peers to publicly denounce racist abuse. He specifically called out certain Hollywood figures—whom he described as his “heroes”—for their silence, noting that some had built their careers by embracing their Jewish identity or portraying Jewish characters on screen.
Schwimmer’s remarks come just weeks after he called on Elon Musk to ban Kanye West from X following the rapper’s latest anti-Semitic statements, including his self-identification as “a Nazi.”
During his speech, Schwimmer criticized prominent figures in entertainment, music, and sports for their silence, stating:”Plenty of people I respect, even some of my heroes, have chosen to keep a low profile and sit this one out—including those whose careers have been built by embracing their Jewish identity and others who have earned acclaim for portraying Jewish characters on screen. Some are working behind the scenes in their own way, but many have chosen to remain publicly silent.”#newsafro_
