Reactions to Carrie Underwood’s upcoming performance at Donald Trump’s inauguration have been mixed. Some fans have voiced their disapproval, with one person stating, “Disgusting, thought she had morals. It was all a sham.” Others, however, have expressed support, thanking her for accepting the invitation.
Underwood is scheduled to perform America the Beautiful on January 20th, accompanied by The Armed Forces Chorus and The United States Naval Academy Glee Club, following Trump’s presidential oath.
While some fans have praised her decision, calling it “perfect” and a “solid choice,” others have criticized the involvement of country artists like Kid Rock and Jason Aldean in drawing attention to Trump’s inauguration, with one user writing, “No Kid Rock or Jason Aldean using Carrie Underwood to draw the ratings for Trump.”
In contrast, some supporters have praised Underwood’s decision, with one remarking, “Nice to know that she’s not a Hollywood blood-sucking vampire.” A Trump supporter also celebrated her, saying, “Good for Carrie Underwood.”
Meanwhile, one user took the opportunity to mock Taylor Swift, who has been outspoken in her support of Kamala Harris, writing, “Sorry Taylor Swift, you didn’t make the cut.”
One critic referenced a 2017 skit Carrie Underwood participated in with Brad Paisley during the CMAs, accusing her of hypocrisy. The user wrote, “How convenient for her liberal a*. Bend the knee, stupid b****.”*
In the 2017 skit, Underwood and Paisley humorously addressed Donald Trump’s tweets. During the live broadcast, Underwood joked, “Now Brad, I don’t know if you heard about this, but the CMA has given us some ‘guidelines’ with specific topics to avoid.” She added, “So we can’t be doing any of our silly little songs because this year’s show is a ‘politics-free zone.’”
Brad Paisley then sang a parody of her hit Before He Cheats, with new lyrics mocking Trump, singing, “Right now, he’s probably in his PJs, watching the cable news, reaching for his cellphone. Right now, he’s probably asking Siri how in the hell do you spell Pocahontas.”
Carrie responded with a simple, “Well, here we go.”
