Nollywood actress Georgina Ibeh has called out some of her fellow actors for making unprofessional demands during movie casting. In a recent statement, Ibeh expressed frustration over the growing trend of actors requesting excessive conditions before agreeing to take on roles in films.
Ibeh pointed out that while actors are within their rights to negotiate their worth, some are crossing the line by making unreasonable demands, which she believes is damaging the industry. She emphasized that these unprofessional behaviors can make the casting process difficult for producers and hinder the growth of the Nollywood industry as a whole.
Her comments sparked conversation among fans and industry professionals, with many agreeing that maintaining professionalism and a collaborative spirit is crucial for Nollywood’s success. Ibeh did not name any specific individuals but made it clear that her comments were meant to encourage improvement in the industry’s practices.
This issue of unprofessionalism in the Nigerian movie industry has been a subject of debate for some time, with various stakeholders expressing concerns about the challenges it poses to filmmakers and the overall quality of Nigerian cinema.
On November 12, 2024, Georgina Ibeh took to Instagram to voice her frustrations with what she described as unprofessional demands from actors during movie casting. She detailed her experience of actors imposing conditions regarding the cast lineup after negotiating their pay. According to Ibeh, while it is normal for actors to inquire about other cast members, some have gone so far as to demand specific individuals be included, threatening to refuse the job if their suggested cast members are not chosen.
Ibeh shared an incident where she reached out to an actress’s management, only to be met with the same demand for specific actors to be included in the project. She expressed disbelief over the audacity of such requests, particularly when actors are already being paid to perform in her films.
In her post, Ibeh firmly stated that such behavior should not be tolerated, declaring that from then on, actors who are called for her projects should simply act and leave without making demands about the cast. She concluded by saying, “Let this nonsense stop today! Nobody should try it with me or GI Films.”
Her strong statement highlights her frustration with what she perceives as a growing trend of entitlement among some actors, which she believes is detrimental to the integrity and professionalism of the Nigerian film industry.
