Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has appointed her daughter, Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, as the ambassador for Almajiri, a traditional system of education for young boys in Northern Nigeria. This appointment aims to address the challenges faced by Almajiri children, including access to quality education and social support.
Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, who is also a businesswoman and entrepreneur, expressed her commitment to advocating for the rights and welfare of Almajiri children. Her role will focus on promoting initiatives that improve educational opportunities, healthcare, and overall living conditions for these children, who often come from impoverished backgrounds.

The appointment of Folashade Tinubu-Ojo as the ambassador for Almajiri was officially announced by Muhammad Sani Idris, the Executive Secretary of the Commission, during a visit to her residence in Lagos. According to a statement from the Commission’s spokesperson, Nura Muhammad, Tinubu-Ojo was selected for this role due to her strong commitment to supporting disadvantaged communities, especially Almajiri and out-of-school children.
Idris highlighted her dedication to promoting trade and commerce while advocating for resources and opportunities for market women, emphasizing her suitability for the ambassadorial position. This appointment aims to leverage her passion and influence to enhance the welfare and educational opportunities for Almajiri children, contributing to broader efforts to reform the educational landscape in Nigeria.
In her response to the appointment, Folashade Tinubu-Ojo expressed her gratitude, stating, “I am deeply honoured by this appointment and am committed to alleviating the plight of these vulnerable Nigerians.” She emphasized her father’s dedication to education, describing it as “a lasting legacy for Nigerian children.”
