Mackenzie Shirilla is taking aim at her hometown from behind bars, criticizing the people of Strongsville, Ohio, in a recently obtained prison phone call with her mother, Natalie Shirilla.
In the audio, Mackenzie is heard complaining about residents of the Cleveland suburb, describing them as “sad and depressing.” The conversation also touches on rumors that have circulated in the community since her arrest and conviction in the deaths of her boyfriend, Dominic Russo, and his friend, Davion Flanagan.
Natalie Shirilla pushed back against claims that their home was known as a party house with little adult supervision, saying neighbors disputed those allegations and suggesting many of the stories being spread are untrue. She also laughed off another rumor claiming Mackenzie had vandalized a church before her arrest.
The discussion later turned to Mackenzie’s legal battle, with Natalie expressing frustration over court proceedings and saying she wished the hearing had been livestreamed.
Shirilla is currently serving consecutive life sentences for the fatal July 2022 crash that killed Russo and Flanagan. Her family continues to challenge the conviction through the appeals process, with the case now before the Ohio Supreme Court. Mackenzie will not be eligible for parole until 2037.#newsafro_
