Pete Davidson’s partner, Elsie Hewitt, has publicly articulated her rationale for electing not to breastfeed the couple’s newborn daughter, Scottie Rose Hewitt Davidson, born in December 2025.
In an essay published by Elle, Hewitt detailed what she described as a “mini war” between her physical condition and mental well-being, acknowledging the societal stigma often associated with formula feeding. She stated that, even prior to pregnancy, she was cognizant of the “quiet shame” frequently attached to mothers who opt not to breastfeed.
Following what she characterized as an uncomfortable pregnancy, and in light of her documented struggles with endometriosis, Hewitt explained that she carefully evaluated her mental health, postpartum recovery, and her broader conception of motherhood before determining that formula feeding was in her and her child’s best interests. She emphasized that while infant formula is medically recognized as safe, healthy, and nutritionally complete, feelings of guilt may nonetheless persist due to prevailing social expectations.
Hewitt further stated that she was uncertain whether the purported benefits of breastfeeding outweighed the physical demands, potential isolation, and exhaustion commonly associated with the practice. Upon the child’s birth, she determined that she did not wish to remain the infant’s sole source of nourishment in a manner that might impede her recovery or limit shared parental responsibilities. As a result, both she and Davidson participate in feeding their daughter through formula.
Despite her decision, Hewitt disclosed that she experienced mastitis postpartum—a breast tissue inflammation characterized by swelling and redness—despite not breastfeeding, which she described as emotionally challenging. She characterized the experience as grieving a path she consciously chose not to pursue.
Hewitt underscored that motherhood is inherently individualized, asserting that feeding decisions should not be subject to a rigid moral hierarchy. She affirmed that her daughter has thrived on formula and is healthy and developing appropriately. In her view, a nourished child and a mentally healthy mother are not mutually exclusive, and maternal well-being should not be sacrificed as proof of devotion.
The couple publicly announced the birth of their daughter on December 12, 2025, via social media. In subsequent interviews, Davidson has indicated that the pair have discussed marriage and expressed interest in expanding their family in the future.#newsafro_
