Dash Crofts, half of the iconic duo Seals & Crofts and co-creator of the hit “Summer Breeze,” has died at 85 from complications following heart surgery.
Crofts, whose full name was Darrell Crofts, rose to fame alongside Jim Seals, who passed away in 2022. The pair first met as teenagers in Texas and began their musical careers touring with The Champs in 1958, shortly after the band scored their hit “Tequila.” They later formed Seals & Crofts, achieving massive success in the 1970s with five gold albums, including Year of Sunday (1971), Summer Breeze (1972), Diamond Girl (1973), and Get Closer (1976).
While best known for their soft rock hits, the duo occasionally sparked controversy, notably with their 1974 anti-abortion song “Unborn Child” following the Roe v. Wade decision. Seals & Crofts disbanded in 1980 as musical trends shifted toward dance music.
Crofts’ death was first announced by producer Louie Shelton, who had worked on many of the duo’s biggest projects. No memorial plans have been announced at this time.#newsafro_
