A member of Jasmine Crockett’s congressional security detail was tragically killed during a police standoff in Dallas, Texas, CBS News reports.
The incident unfolded Wednesday night when Mike King allegedly ran into a hospital parking garage and barricaded himself inside a vehicle while being pursued by SWAT officers. Authorities say police used tear gas to subdue him, prompting King to jump out of the car and brandish a firearm, which led to him being fatally shot by law enforcement.
Officials told CBS that King was wanted for impersonating law enforcement while operating a platform called Off Duty Police Services, which arranges off-duty gigs for North Texas police officers.
Images reviewed by CBS show King providing security for Crockett at public events and traveling with her during her recent campaign for the U.S. Senate in Texas, where she ultimately lost the Democratic primary to James Talarico.
Further reports indicate that King had driven an imitation undercover police vehicle, complete with license plates removed from cars outside a military recruiting office. Documents also show that he received payment from Crockett in 2025 for “security services.”
The deadly standoff has raised questions about the safety protocols for congressional security personnel and the circumstances that led to the fatal encounter.#newsafro_
