A blockbuster combat sports spectacle may be on the horizon if Nakisa Bidarian gets his way. The CEO of Most Valuable Promotions believes a showdown between Jake Paul and Conor McGregor could become one of the biggest events in combat sports history—especially if it happens twice.
Speaking during a studio appearance, Bidarian shared what he described as the “perfect idea” for fans. His proposal involves not just one fight but two: first a mixed martial arts bout in the Octagon, followed by a boxing match in the ring.
According to Bidarian, the concept would deliver back-to-back blockbuster events for fans worldwide. He suggested the fights could be promoted jointly, giving audiences the rare opportunity to see the same rivals compete under two different combat sports rules.
Talk of a fight between Paul and McGregor is not new, but discussions have typically centered on a boxing match. Bidarian’s proposal goes a step further by including an MMA bout, something that would mark a new challenge for Paul.
The promoter emphasized that Paul is open to the idea of stepping into the cage. While the YouTuber-turned-boxer has built his career inside the boxing ring, he previously wrestled in high school and has expressed interest in testing himself in mixed martial arts.
For McGregor, however, any such bout would require cooperation from the Ultimate Fighting Championship, as the Irish star remains under contract with the promotion. Bidarian suggested the plan would involve a co-promotion agreement with Dana White and the UFC.
McGregor, now 37, has not competed in the Octagon since July 2021, when he suffered a broken leg during his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier. His last professional boxing appearance came in 2017 in a high-profile bout against Floyd Mayweather Jr..
Paul, on the other hand, has remained active in boxing and continues to pursue high-profile opponents as he builds his career in the sport.
While the two-fight concept remains only a proposal for now, Bidarian believes it would create one of the most talked-about events in combat sports—bringing together two of the sport’s biggest personalities for a rare cross-discipline showdown🥊🥋.#newsafro_
