Singer and songwriter Adekunle Gold recently made history as the first artist to headline the newly renovated Wole Soyinka Center for Culture and Creative Arts (formerly the National Theater) in Lagos, delivering a sold-out orchestral concert that blended heritage, innovation, and cinematic artistry.
The performance featured the MUSON Orchestra alongside Gold’s band, The 79th Element, and sold out within five days of its announcement, highlighting his cultural prominence and marking a significant reintroduction of the venue as a center for world-class artistic expression.
During the concert, Gold performed selections from his critically acclaimed album Fuji, as well as hits from his decade-long catalogue, all re-imagined with orchestral arrangements, live instrumentation, and elaborate stage production. The event positions him among the artists who have shaped the legacy of the National Theater while ushering it into a new era of cultural programming.
This milestone follows Gold’s groundbreaking orchestral debut at the EFG London Jazz Festival on November 23, 2025, where he became the first Nigerian artist to headline an orchestral show at London’s Royal Festival Hall. That sold-out performance, featuring the Guildhall Session Orchestra, earned widespread critical acclaim.
Through this orchestral series, Adekunle Gold has redefined live music in Nigeria and established a new standard for cultural ambition, artistic excellence, and international relevance.#newsafro_
