Adele Roberts has disclosed that she recently experienced a renewed health concern and underwent surgery to remove a lump located in her neck. The broadcaster, aged 46, identified the lump during the summer, approximately four years after her initial diagnosis of bowel cancer in 2021.
Following her 2021 diagnosis, Ms. Roberts underwent colostomy surgery to remove a bowel tumour, after which a stoma was fitted. She subsequently received chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and was declared cancer-free nine months later. She continues to live with a stoma.
In a statement posted on Instagram on Wednesday, Ms. Roberts described the anxiety associated with this second health scare and shared images showing a surgical scar behind her ear. She expressed appreciation to the National Health Service and explained that she had been undergoing multiple medical assessments over the past week.
Ms. Roberts stated that the neck lump persisted despite initial treatment and ultimately required specialist review and surgical removal. She noted that the prolonged wait for surgery—dating back to late August—had caused significant concern for her and her partner.
She reported that long-distance running undertaken during this period, including participation in the Sydney Marathon, helped her manage the emotional strain. She further remarked that she views the resulting scar as a symbol of recovery.
Ms. Roberts confirmed that pathology results indicated that the lump was benign. However, she added that recent endoscopy findings were inconclusive due to technical issues, and she will be required to return for repeat testing.
She encouraged anyone experiencing health concerns to seek medical advice, emphasising the importance of early detection.
Public figures and fans responded with messages of support, acknowledging her openness and resilience.
This development follows Ms. Roberts’ completion of an international running challenge earlier this year, during which she completed six marathons within eight months to raise funds for Cancer Research UK and The Attitude Magazine Foundation. As stated on her fundraising page, the initiative was undertaken to support organizations that assisted her during her treatment and continue to assist others.#newsafro_
