Jack Osbourne has disclosed that the final months of his father, the late Ozzy Osbourne, were recorded for inclusion in a forthcoming BBC documentary.
In an interview with Weekend magazine conducted prior to Ozzy Osbourne’s passing at the age of 76, Jack Osbourne stated that filming had taken place at the Buckinghamshire residence shared by Ozzy and his wife, Sharon Osbourne.
According to Jack, production crews were present at the property during this period, capturing footage of the couple as part of the series Home To Roost.
Initially conceived as a documentary chronicling the Osbournes’ return to the United Kingdom after two decades in the United States, the series is now expected to serve, at least in part, as a tribute to the life and legacy of the late musician.
Jack Osbourne further confirmed that his father, the late Ozzy Osbourne, had completed work on an autobiography entitled Last Rites, which is scheduled for publication in the autumn.
In the same interview, Jack also discussed his involvement as co-producer of an upcoming biographical film centered on his father’s life and career. He described the project as a candid and unflinching portrayal, promising that the narrative would encompass themes of substance use, groupies, and the chaotic lifestyle associated with the rock and roll industry, while also highlighting the enduring relationship between Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne.
“The film will primarily focus on the Black Sabbath era and the early 1980s,” Jack stated, adding that the project is being developed with a mature audience in mind.
“This is by no means going to be a fluff piece,” he affirmed.
Florence Pugh, best known for her Oscar and BAFTA-nominated performance in Oppenheimer, has been identified as a potential candidate for the role of Sharon Osbourne in the forthcoming biopic, while actor and comedian Bill Hader has been considered for the role of Ozzy Osbourne.
The screenplay is currently undergoing revisions. An initial draft was submitted by Lee Hall, the screenwriter behind the Elton John biopic Rocketman. Jack Osbourne confirmed that a rewrite is now in progress, led by Craig Borten, best known for Dallas Buyers Club, starring Matthew McConaughey.
Approximately five days prior to the interview, Ozzy Osbourne performed what would ultimately be his final live concert. The event took place before a live audience of 40,000 attendees at Birmingham’s Villa Park and was viewed by an estimated 5 million additional fans via livestream. The performance featured a reunion with his band, Black Sabbath, marking their first on-stage collaboration in eight years, and included iconic tracks such as Iron Man and Paranoid.
The critical and public response to the concert was overwhelmingly positive. Jack Osbourne recalled encouraging his father to read the reviews, stating: “Dad, you’ve got to see these reviews – they’re all amazing. Everyone loved the show and your performance.” He described witnessing the concert as an emotional experience for the family, noting: “Just to see him up there doing his job was great. We were all tearing up.”
Ozzy Osbourne, however, responded in his characteristically wry and unfiltered manner: “Lot of f**ing good that does me. I’m retired now!”*
At the time of the interview, Jack Osbourne gave no indication that his father’s passing was imminent. He remarked: “Listen, everyone gets old, everyone slows down as you age – it’s part of the journey. I just try and support him as much as I can. We all do.”#newsafro_
