On Thursday, Mr. Snoop Dogg, aged 53, publicly acknowledged that he is experiencing considerable emotional distress following a recent personal loss.
Through a statement shared via his official Instagram account, Mr. Dogg disclosed that his beloved French Bulldog, Juelz—who had been a cherished member of his household for nearly 11 years—had passed away.
He accompanied the announcement with a video slideshow containing images of the dog over the years, captioning the post:
“Miss my dogg @juelzbroadus.”
Juelz, a French Bulldog, became an integral part of Mr. Snoop Dogg’s household and served as a fitting companion to his other French Bulldog, Frank, during their shared time spanning more than a decade.
The canine entered Mr. Dogg’s life in 2014 as a birthday gift from close friend and fellow artist Mr. Wiz Khalifa, coinciding with Mr. Dogg’s 43rd birthday.
This personal loss comes on the heels of a professional milestone for Mr. Dogg, who was honored with the Ultimate Icon Award at the BET Awards on Sunday. The accolade was presented by longtime collaborator and friend, Mr. Dr. Dre, with additional tributes made during the event to notable figures including Ms. Mariah Carey and Mr. Jamie Foxx.
Mr. Snoop Dogg, a globally recognized recording artist and cultural figure, has owned numerous pets over the course of his life. In addition to Juelz and Frank—both French Bulldogs—his household has included Pitbulls named Lil Snoop and Mamba, as well as various other canines and Siamese cats bearing the names Miles Davis and Frank Sinatra.
Of these, Juelz arguably held the highest public profile. The French Bulldog maintained his own Instagram account, which for years chronicled his daily activities and endeared him to tens of thousands of followers. Mr. Dogg began curating this account shortly after receiving Juelz as a gift, documenting the pet’s charm and antics for a wide audience.
However, the account has remained inactive since June 2021, indicating a possible lapse in ongoing engagement.
In the memorial tribute posted to his own Instagram, Mr. Dogg included a slideshow of images spanning Juelz’s life—from his earliest days as a puppy to more recent years. The photographs reflected the artist’s deep affection for the animal, and some included appearances by Mr. Wiz Khalifa, the longtime friend who had originally gifted the dog to Mr. Dogg.
Mr. Snoop Dogg has previously attracted public attention in connection with a distressing incident involving one of his other pets.
In January 2022, his French Bulldog named Frank went missing, an event that caused significant emotional distress to Mr. Dogg and his family. In response, Mr. Dogg utilized his social media platforms to issue a public appeal for assistance, including the dissemination of “missing dog” notices containing the last known location of the animal within the Los Angeles area.
Fortunately, the matter was resolved without lasting harm. Several days later, Mr. Dogg confirmed that a local couple had located Frank and facilitated his safe return. Expressing profound gratitude, he referred to the individuals as a “lovely couple” and publicly pledged to send them unspecified “gifts” as a gesture of appreciation.
Beyond his personal attachment to dogs, Mr. Dogg has also leveraged his affinity for animals in a professional context. Together with longtime friend and collaborator Ms. Martha Stewart, he has co-hosted and coached multiple installments of the Puppy Bowl, a televised event that merges animal welfare advocacy with entertainment programming.#newsafro_
