In a new development in the ongoing public dispute between Mr. Kanye West and Ms. Kim Kardashian, Mr. West has formally denied authorship of a purported legal document previously reported to have been sent to Ms. Kardashian. The document in question—a cease-and-desist letter—was alleged, according to a TMZ report published earlier Friday, to accuse Ms. Kardashian of exploiting the couple’s four minor children.
Mr. West, 47, has now categorically labeled the letter a “hoax” and disclaimed any connection to its creation or dissemination.
This incident follows a history of public contention between the former spouses regarding custody and co-parenting arrangements for their children: North (11), Saint (9), Chicago (7), and Psalm (5). Mr. West has repeatedly alleged that he is being impeded from exercising regular and meaningful access to the children, while Ms. Kardashian has not publicly responded to these most recent claims.
In March, Mr. Kanye West drew widespread criticism after posting a series of tweets alleging that a “white woman” held undue control over his Black children—remarks interpreted as a veiled reference to his former spouse, Ms. Kim Kardashian. The controversy intensified further with the release of his latest track on Thursday, in which Mr. West provocatively asserts that the contentious custody proceedings with Ms. Kardashian are what “made [him] a Nazi.”
Subsequently, on Friday, TMZ published a report claiming that Mr. West had sent Ms. Kardashian a cease-and-desist letter. The alleged letter purportedly accused her of abandoning their daughter, North West, in a parked vehicle while attending the Met Gala.
However, a spokesperson for Mr. West has since issued a categorical denial, asserting that the rapper had no involvement in drafting or sending such a document. The representative further stated that TMZ had “fallen for a hoax,” emphasizing that the reported legal communication was entirely fictitious.
A representative for Mr. Kanye West has issued a formal statement to Page Six, refuting the authenticity of a purported cease-and-desist letter directed to Ms. Kim Kardashian and widely reported by TMZ. “The letter is quite obviously fraudulent,” the representative asserted. “TMZ did not reach out for comment prior to publication, and only contacted us this morning, belatedly inquiring whether the document was part of a ‘publicity stunt.’ It was not. They fell for a hoax.”
According to the original report, the letter was allegedly sent by an attorney identified as Kathy Johnson, purportedly on behalf of Mr. West, and addressed to Ms. Kardashian’s legal counsel, Ms. Laura Wasser. The letter allegedly raised concerns regarding “the welfare and custody of Mr. West’s minor children: North West, Saint West, Chicago West, and Psalm West.”
DailyMail.com has since reported multiple irregularities associated with both the sender and the document. Ms. Johnson reportedly claims affiliation with a law office based in Spain that asserts extraterritorial jurisdiction in the United States. However, the telephone number listed for the firm is currently non-operational and was previously linked to a travel agency.
Further scrutiny reveals that the cease-and-desist letter refers to a firm identified as the “JB Law Firm” based in Palma, Mallorca. No such firm appears in local legal directories or registries, although a similarly named entity exists in the Canary Islands. It remains unclear whether Ms. Johnson holds a valid license to practice law in the state of California, the jurisdiction where Ms. Kardashian and the minor children legally reside.
The letter in question accuses Ms. Kardashian of violating both Mr. West’s parental rights and the terms of their divorce decree in three alleged instances. Chief among them is the claim that Ms. Kardashian brought the couple’s eldest daughter, North West, to the Met Gala in New York City on or about May 5, 2025, subjecting her to intense media exposure and allegedly leaving her “unattended in a vehicle during portions of the event,” thereby creating a “risk to her safety.”
Representatives for both Mr. West and Ms. Kardashian have been contacted by DailyMail.com for formal comment.#newsafro_
