Nollywood actress Abiola Ayomide Adebayo hereby formally confirms that her marital union with Mr. Oluwaseyi Akinrinde was amicably dissolved in April 2024. The parties have since maintained a cooperative and respectful co-parenting relationship in the best interests of their minor child.
This public clarification, made via her verified Instagram account on Tuesday, coincided with a birthday message extended to Mr. Akinrinde, wherein Ms. Adebayo referred to him as her “ex-husband and baby daddy,” thereby affirming the change in their marital status.
In her statement, Ms. Adebayo expressed her sincere wishes for Mr. Akinrinde’s continued peace and prosperity, stating:
“Happy birthday to my ex-husband and my baby daddy. I pray that grace will abound unto you, I pray you find peace in all your ways. May God continue to light your path and bless you beyond your expectations, in Jesus’ name.”
She further remarked:
“Yes, you heard me right! My husband and I have been separated since April last year, but we have decided to maturely and peacefully co-parent our dear son, who means everything to us.”
Addressing her supporters, Ms. Adebayo acknowledged the emotional complexity of the past year, offering the following personal reflection:
“To everyone that feels disappointed, I’m sincerely sorry. I wished it worked, but it’s better to stay alive to tell the story. Please keep us in your prayers.”
She also disclosed that, while maintaining a composed public image, she has endured significant emotional distress during the period in question:
“While I go about making other people happy during the day, my pillow is drenched with my own tears almost every night for the past 14 months. But I gain strength from Christ, who loves me eternally and gave Himself for me.”
This statement is intended to provide clarity and closure on the matter while soliciting the understanding and continued support of the public. Both parties remain committed to the welfare and emotional stability of their child.
In her continued public address, Ms. Abiola Adebayo urged the general public to exercise compassion and empathy in their interpersonal dealings, stating:
“Let us learn to be kind to others; one cannot truly know the weight another bears until they choose to speak. Say unto the righteous, all is well.”
Her disclosure was met with an outpouring of public support. Fans, industry colleagues, and well-wishers responded with numerous messages of encouragement, commending her candour and emotional strength in navigating this highly personal and delicate matter with maturity and dignity.
Among those who offered their solidarity was fellow Nollywood actress Regina Chukwu, who commented, “Biola… it’s well,” reflecting the broader sentiment of concern and goodwill expressed across social media platforms.
As background to the relationship, it may be recalled that in 2023, The Punch reported Ms. Adebayo’s remarks regarding the relatively brief duration of her courtship with Mr. Akinrinde prior to their marriage in April 2021. On her YouTube channel, she explained:
“I realised that we had a lot in common. We did not court for long. We got married in less than six months after we started dating because I knew what I wanted.”
The couple subsequently welcomed their first child, a son, in April 2023 through a successful surrogacy arrangement. This decision followed a series of well-documented challenges relating to fertility, which Ms. Adebayo has previously spoken about publicly in an effort to support and uplift others facing similar struggles.
Ms. Adebayo remains grateful for the prayers and goodwill extended to her and respectfully requests continued privacy as she and Mr. Akinrinde focus on co-parenting and the emotional well-being of their child.#newsafro_
