Nick Offerman has publicly addressed the tragic death of his Parks and Recreation co-star, Jonathan Joss. The deceased actor, aged 59, was reportedly fatally shot in San Antonio, Texas, on Sunday during a confrontation with his neighbor, Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja, as reported by TMZ.
Mr. Ceja was apprehended by law enforcement authorities shortly after fleeing the scene and has been charged with murder. He is currently held on bond set at $200,000 pending further legal proceedings.
The surviving spouse of Mr. Jonathan Joss has publicly asserted that the decedent’s death was motivated by homophobia.
Mr. Joss was recognized for his recurring role as Chief Ken Hotate in the acclaimed NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation, appearing in five episodes alongside fellow principal cast members including Mr. Nick Offerman, Ms. Amy Poehler, Ms. Rashida Jones, Mr. Chris Pratt, Mr. Adam Scott, and Ms. Aubrey Plaza.
In a formal statement issued to People magazine on Tuesday, Mr. Offerman expressed profound sorrow, stating, “The cast has been texting together about it all day and we’re just heartbroken. Jonathan was such a sweet guy and we loved having him as our Chief Ken Hotate. A terrible tragedy.”
Jonathan Joss was officially pronounced deceased on Sunday after emergency medical personnel were unable to revive him following multiple gunshot wounds allegedly inflicted by his neighbor, Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja, during an altercation.
The San Antonio Police Department apprehended the suspect a short distance from the incident, locating him in his vehicle approximately one block away from the scene. Mr. Ceja is currently held on bond set at $200,000 pending further legal action.
Notably, on the preceding Saturday, Mr. Joss, who maintained a social media following of approximately 9,000, posted a video message in which he appeared in good spirits and invited fans to attend a signing event at Tribe Comics and Games located in Austin, Texas.
On the morning of the incident, Mr. Joss expressed his gratitude via Facebook to supporters who assisted in arranging transportation back to San Antonio.
An alumnus of Our Lady of the Lake University, Mr. Joss’s most recent credited role on IMDb was as a voice actor in CD Projekt RED’s 2023 video game release Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, performing alongside actors Keanu Reeves and Idris Elba.
Mr. Joss also provided voice work for the character Healing in the animated drama Unplugged, directed by Paul McComas and Holly Trasti, featuring voice performances from Louis Gossett Jr., Ed Asner, Christina Ricci, and Jeri Ryan.
He is perhaps most widely recognized for his role as the voice of musician and healer John Redcorn on the Fox animated sitcom King of the Hill, a character involved in a longstanding narrative arc that spanned thirteen seasons.
