Human rights lawyer, Dele Farotimi, has reaffirmed his support for Peter Obi in the event that he contests the presidency in 2027. Farotimi, however, described early discussions about the upcoming elections as a distraction.
Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics program, Farotimi said, “If elections where our votes will count were held today, I would vote for Peter Gregory Obi, unless somebody else enters the race who I believe can do better.”
Dele Farotimi reiterated his commitment to supporting Peter Obi in the 2027 presidential election, provided the candidate lineup remains the same as in the previous election. Farotimi expressed that while he hopes Obi will be bolder with his policy platforms, he remains convinced that, in terms of capacity and integrity, Obi stands out. He added that it would take something significant, such as Obi aligning with individuals Farotimi finds objectionable, to change his stance.
Farotimi also criticized the premature focus on the 2027 elections, stating that discussions about the next election are premature given the country’s current situation. He argued that such conversations are counterproductive and a disservice to the nation. His ongoing support for Obi is rooted in his desire for a better Nigeria.#newsafro_
