After several hours of questioning by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Lagos socialite Emeka Okonkwo, known as E-Money, was reportedly released on Tuesday evening.
E-Money had been apprehended on Monday night at his residence in the Omole area of Lagos and subsequently taken to the EFCC office in Abuja for further interrogation.
The arrest was related to allegations of Naira abuse and the defacing of foreign currencies.
However, on Tuesday evening, E-Money took to his Instagram account (@iam_emoney1) to celebrate his release, sharing the news with his followers.
Displaying himself in a regal manner, E-Money shared a video on his Instagram, captioning it: “No tension, everywhere good, I see all your love and support. God bless you all.” The background of the video featured the song, “Thank you for saving me, thank you my Lord.”
Despite attempts to reach EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale for confirmation regarding E-Money’s release, no response was received at the time of this report. Similarly, fellow socialite Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, also celebrated E-Money’s release on his Instagram account (@Cubana_ChiefPriest). He posted, “My brother don fall out, To God be the glory.”
Earlier on Tuesday, E-Money had been arrested for allegedly spraying U.S. dollars at an event, an act that reportedly violates Nigeria’s Foreign Exchange Act. According to an EFCC source, “On Monday night, we arrested E-Money for Naira abuse and defacing foreign currencies. Specifically, he was alleged to have sprayed U.S. dollars, which is against the Foreign Exchange Act.”
E-Money was apprehended at his residence in Omole, Lagos. The source further stated, “Preliminary investigations are ongoing, and he will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.”#newsafro_
