Film producer Socrate Safo has rejected an honorary award from the Ghana Movie Awards, stating that the scheme lacks credibility. In his rejection, Safo emphasized that the awards have not lived up to their intended purpose of properly recognizing and promoting the Ghanaian film industry. He expressed concerns about the lack of transparency in the selection process and suggested that the awards system no longer reflects the values and standards it once had. Socrates Safo, a prominent figure in the Ghanaian film industry, firmly rejected the honor from the Ghana Movie Awards, citing the lack of credibility within the scheme. “I didn’t work tirelessly to build my reputation just to have it tainted by an awards scheme that lacks credibility,” Safo stated. With a career spanning over three decades, Safo has contributed significantly to the industry, having directed more than 100 films. He has also held leadership roles such as Director for Creative Arts at the National Commission on Culture, Chairman of the Film Classification Committee, and is a founding member of the Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG) and the Audio Visual Rights Society of Ghana (ARSOG).
