Mohbad’s widow, Wunmi, has agreed to undergo a DNA test to establish the paternity of their son, identified as Ibrahim. This decision follows ongoing discussions regarding the child’s lineage, particularly in light of the late artist’s family dynamics. Wunmi expressed her willingness to cooperate with the process, emphasizing the importance of clarity for her son’s future.
The DNA test aims to provide definitive answers about Ibrahim’s paternity, a matter that has attracted significant public attention since Mohbad’s untimely death in September 2023. Wunmi’s cooperation is seen as a step towards resolving the uncertainties surrounding the child’s identity and ensuring his well-being moving forward.
The Magistrates Court in Ikorodu, Lagos State, had previously directed the involved parties to seek an alternative dispute resolution during its sitting on July 9, 2024. However, closed-door negotiations did not result in an agreement.
In a statement released to PUNCH Metro, Monisola Odumosu, a representative of the family’s legal team, confirmed that Mohbad’s widow, Wunmi, has now agreed to undergo the DNA test to establish the paternity of their son, Ibrahim. This decision comes after the drafting of settlement terms by both parties, indicating a willingness to resolve the matter amicably.
In a statement, Monisola Odumosu revealed that Emmanuel Oroko informed the court that both parties had reached an out-of-court settlement and were prepared to present the agreed terms, which had already been filed and served to Wunmi Aloba’s legal team. Kabir Akingbolu, representing Mohbad’s family, confirmed this, leading the court to adopt the settlement terms as its judgment.
According to the settlement, Wunmi has consented to have a DNA test conducted at either two recognized and accredited government or private medical facilities within Lagos State, or at another mutually agreed-upon hospital outside the state. Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, will cover all costs associated with the DNA testing process, including fees for the testing facility and sample collection, as well as any related legal or administrative expenses.
