A judge has issued a ruling in the ongoing divorce and custody case between Nikki Garcia and Artem Chigvintsev. Following Garcia’s filing for divorce in September 2024, just days after Chigvintsev’s arrest on domestic violence charges (which were later dropped), the couple has been navigating custody arrangements for their son, Matteo. Reports suggest that Chigvintsev is open to equal custody, but Garcia prefers to move forward independently.
The judge has ruled that Nikki Garcia and Artem Chigvintsev will share joint custody of their four-year-old son, Matteo, following Garcia’s divorce filing. Chigvintsev had requested joint custody in his response to the filing, which came shortly after his arrest on domestic violence charges that were later dismissed. This decision marks a significant step in their custody arrangements amid their divorce proceedings.
Nikki Garcia’s request for sole custody of her son, Matteo, was denied by the court. She had also sought supervised visits with Chigvintsev and requested that he attend anger management courses, all of which were rejected. In court, Chigvintsev stated he does not have any anger-related issues.
The court has ordered both Nikki Garcia and Artem Chigvintsev to enroll in parenting classes to help maintain a cordial relationship while co-parenting their son, Matteo. Their divorce trial is scheduled for December and will last two days. Garcia previously obtained a restraining order against Chigvintsev, alleging physical abuse, while he claimed she was the aggressor. Chigvintsev’s domestic violence charges were dropped in September, and he expressed relief over the situation.
