Halle Berry is currently in New York to promote her new survival horror film Never Let Go, which is in post-production with Lionsgate. The film, featuring a largely unknown cast, had its world premiere on Monday, where Halle stunned in a fitted shimmering gown.
Never Let Go tells the story of a mother (played by Halle) and her twin sons, who have been tormented by a malicious spirit for years. When one of the boys begins to doubt the existence of the evil entity, it shatters the family’s sacred bond, leading to a perilous battle for survival. The film marks Halle’s return to the horror genre since 2004’s Gothika, and will have a second premiere at Fantastic Fest before hitting cinemas this Friday.
In a recent interview with Newsafro.com, Halle explained why she resonated with her character, stating, “If you really love your children, sometimes you’re tough, but there’s a fine line between mental and physical abuse. My character, to her credit, is a different kind of mom trying to raise boys in a very unique circumstance, and it’s that tough love that’s keeping them alive.”
Halle Berry expressed her enthusiasm for Never Let Go by highlighting its uniqueness within the horror genre. She noted, “This is one of my favorite genres of movies, but this one felt different for me. There are elements that feel familiar, but you’ve never seen a Black mama with her two Black sons in the middle of the woods tied to a rope to a house. The generational trauma and the spiritual and religious aspects made it new and intriguing, which drew me back into the genre.”
In a candid September interview with Marie Claire, Halle opened up about her relationship with Van Hunt. She shared that she experienced love before physical intimacy for the first time with him, describing it as a transformative and magical experience. Halle reflected on her past relationships, admitting that she had been “loosey goosey” before meeting Van and was more intentional with her career than her personal life.
Halle also recounted how she came to meet Van, saying, “You have to be clear with the universe, or any old thing will find you. The minute I started to understand myself better, Van’s brother, whom I had known for years, suggested I meet him.”
Halle and Van’s blended family includes Van’s teenage son, Drake, and Halle’s children, daughter Nahla, 16, and son Maceo, 10, from her previous marriage to Olivier Martinez.
