Brian Harrison, a 57-year-old Welsh ex-pat residing in Tenerife, has faced accusations of hypocrisy from local residents. As secretary general of Salvar La Tejita, a group advocating for restrictions on tourism in the Canaries, Harrison has been vocal against the influx of visitors. His campaign, which began in 2016, targets the 883-bed La Tejita Beach Club Resort being built near his apartment. Neighbors claim that his stance on tourism shifted when the hotel construction began encroaching on his own doorstep.
Neighbors of Brian Harrison in his gated community, where properties are valued around £430,000 (€500,000), have shared with Newsafro.com that Harrison’s concerns extend beyond tourism. They claim he fears the hotel’s construction will negatively impact property values by obstructing a desirable view of the mountain. Additionally, the completion of the hotel is expected to lead to large numbers of tourists occupying the beach for much of the year.
