A mother has disclosed the concerningly subtle indicator that her five-year-old daughter had eye cancer. Elise Seal from Birmingham observed that Esmae’s right eye changed from its usual green and brown to a dark brown while they were on holiday in June of the previous year. It wasn’t until they returned home that Elise noticed an unusual white ‘glow’ in the eye.
The 25-year-old scheduled an optician appointment for her then three-year-old daughter, who was subsequently referred for additional tests. Scans revealed that she had retinoblastoma, a rare form of eye cancer diagnosed in only 44 children in the UK and 300 in the US annually.
