A 20-year-old man is scheduled to appear in court this morning, facing charges of attempted murder after a mother was stabbed in front of her young child at Notting Hill Carnival.
Shakiel Thibou was arrested at an address in Hammersmith and Fulham on Tuesday morning. He faces charges of attempted murder, violent disorder, and possession of an offensive weapon.
Police have also arrested Shakiel Thibou’s two brothers in connection with the stabbing of the 32-year-old woman. All three have been remanded to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday morning.
Sheldon Thibou, 24, faces charges of violent disorder, possession of a stun gun, and assaulting an emergency worker, while Shaeim Thibou, 22, is charged with violent disorder and assaulting an emergency worker. Authorities believe the victim was inadvertently caught in the middle of a brawl between two groups of men and remains in critical condition in hospital.
The woman was caught in a confrontation between two groups and was stabbed on Golborne Road just before 6 p.m. on the ‘family day’ of Notting Hill Carnival on Sunday.
Commander Charmain Brenyah, the Met’s spokesperson for the carnival, stated that the mother had come to the festival to ‘have fun’ with her young child but became involved in ‘the most awful violence.’ She expressed that their thoughts are with the victim, who is fighting for her life in hospital, and her loved ones.
Brenyah noted that the arrests represent a significant advance in the investigation, attributing the progress to the tireless efforts of detectives who have worked around the clock to identify and apprehend the suspects. She emphasized the challenge of conducting such investigations amidst the chaos of a large event like Carnival and praised the officers and medics for their swift response in delivering emergency medical treatment and preserving crucial evidence.
