The President of the Nigerian Boxing Federation (NBF) and Honorable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, has expressed heartfelt condolences to world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua and the families of the two victims who tragically lost their lives in Monday’s road accident along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Edun described Joshua as a “national treasure” and extended the boxing community’s prayers for his recovery.
“On behalf of the entire Nigerian boxing family, I express my deepest condolences to our national treasure, Anthony Joshua, and the families of the two individuals who passed away,” Edun said. “The loss of life is always deeply distressing, and our thoughts and prayers are with you, Anthony, and the affected families at this difficult time. As a boxing community, we pray for your speedy recovery and that the souls of the dearly departed rest in peace.”
The accident reportedly occurred shortly after 11 a.m. on Monday when the Lexus SUV conveying Joshua and three other passengers collided with a stationary truck in Makun, Ogun State, near the Danco Filling Station before the Sagamu Interchange.
Both the Ogun and Lagos State governments confirmed that Joshua, 35, is in stable condition and receiving specialized medical care in Lagos. The former two-time heavyweight champion had been in Nigeria to attend sporting events and community engagements following his reported knockout victory over Jake Paul in Miami on December 19.#newsafro_
