Lagos State is scheduled to host a 96-hour DJ Marathon World Festival as part of the annual Detty December celebrations, according to organizers. The event is set to take place from December 29, 2025, to January 2, 2026, and will feature at least 100 DJs performing continuously over the four-day period.
In a statement provided to PUNCH Online, media personality Buchi Henry, who is coordinating the festival, indicated that the concept was inspired by international interest in Lagos during its December festivities. According to Henry, inquiries were received from individuals in Switzerland, Denmark, Norway, France, and Portugal who expressed interest in experiencing the city’s nightlife and festival culture firsthand.
Henry explained that the festival is intended to capture the energy of Lagos’ party scene, with DJs serving as the central attraction. The organizers aim to set a world record for the duration of the event, noting that previous marathon events lasted 24 to 55 hours, with DJ Obi and DJ Bella having achieved 250-hour performances. The goal of the current festival is a 96-hour continuous program featuring DJs performing simultaneously across multiple stages.
The festival will be held across three beach venues—Wave Beach, Kyma Beach, and Athena Beach—and will include a combination of free and ticketed events. In addition to musical performances, the program will incorporate food, fashion, health and fitness activities, including yoga and Zumba, as well as diverse music genres such as gospel, R&B, rap, and hip-hop.
Organizers confirmed that the event has been strategically scheduled to coincide with New Year celebrations, ensuring a crossover into 2026, accompanied by fireworks and other global festivities. The festival will also be live-streamed to audiences in approximately 100 countries.
Veteran DJs including DJ Jimmy Jatt, DJ Neptune, DJ Humility, and DJ Bombastic are confirmed to perform, alongside emerging talents. Organizers stated that more than 50 slots will be allocated to up-and-coming DJs, with a focus on promoting female performers and ensuring gender equality. Masked Queen Bella, recognized as holding the longest DJ marathon record in Africa, will also participate.
Henry described the event logistics as challenging but emphasized the objective of delivering Africa’s largest and most globally visible party festival.#newsafro_
