Paris-Michael Katherine Jackson (“Paris Jackson”), daughter of the late recording artist Michael Jackson, was observed in Los Angeles on September 4, 2024, shortly after issuing public statements distancing herself from Michael, a forthcoming biographical motion picture concerning her father. The film, budgeted at approximately one hundred fifty-five million dollars ($155,000,000), is directed by Antoine Fuqua and scheduled for release in the United States and United Kingdom on April 24, 2025.
The production is being undertaken by Lionsgate in collaboration with GK Films and is fully authorized by the co-executors of the Michael Jackson Estate, John Branca and John McClain. Paris Jackson’s cousin, Jaafar Jackson, has been cast in the role of the late singer.
Ms. Jackson publicly disputed statements made by actor Colman Domingo, who portrays her great-grandfather Joe Jackson in the film. Mr. Domingo had represented to People magazine that Ms. Jackson was “very much in support” of the project and had been “helping out on set.” In response, Ms. Jackson issued a statement via Instagram clarifying that she had interacted with Mr. Domingo only on two brief occasions and that his characterization of her support was inaccurate. She further denied that her brother, Prince Jackson, was serving as a producer on the film, notwithstanding Mr. Domingo’s assertion to the contrary.
Ms. Jackson explained that, although she initially provided feedback to producers on an early draft of the script, her concerns regarding what she described as inaccuracies and misrepresentations were disregarded. She stated: “There’s a lot of inaccuracy and there’s a lot of just full-blown lies. At the end of the day, that doesn’t really fly with me. I don’t really like dishonesty. I spoke up. I wasn’t heard. I walked away.” She emphasized that she does not wish to be associated with the project, noting that the film “panders to a very specific section” of her father’s fanbase.
In a further critique, Ms. Jackson compared GK Films’ handling of the Michael Jackson biopic to its 2018 production of Bohemian Rhapsody, citing reports of dissatisfaction expressed by Freddie Mercury’s surviving family members.
Her remarks also addressed speculation regarding her relationship with her father, underscoring that her public criticism of the film does not reflect animosity toward him. She acknowledged her financial interest in his estate, from which she is reported to receive approximately eight million dollars ($8,000,000) annually, with additional distributions scheduled at ages eighteen (18), thirty-three (33), and forty (40).#newsafro_
