On Friday, Aston Merrygold, a 37-year-old recording artist and member of the musical group JLS, was urgently transported to a hospital via ambulance.
The singer provided a public update through his Instagram Stories, wherein he posted images documenting his transfer to the Accident and Emergency (A&E) department. The visuals depicted Mr. Merrygold secured to a stretcher and receiving intravenous treatment.
Although the underlying cause of his hospitalisation was not disclosed, Mr. Merrygold appeared to remain in good spirits, as evidenced by his smile and gesture of a thumbs-up directed toward the camera.
The recording artist captioned his social media post with the remark: “It’s been an interesting 13 hours.”
Representatives for Mr. Merrygold have been contacted by MailOnline for an official statement regarding the incident.
Notably, Mr. Merrygold’s hospitalisation occurred shortly after JLS delivered an unannounced performance at Capital’s Summertime Ball. It also follows the recent release of Disney Pixar’s feature film Elio, in which Mr. Merrygold marked his debut as a voice actor.
In his voice-acting debut for Disney Pixar’s newly released feature film Elio, Aston Merrygold aptly portrays a character sharing his own name, appearing alongside esteemed Hollywood actress Zoe Saldaña, 46.
Reflecting on his entry into the world of animation, Mr. Merrygold—who shares three children, Grayson (7), Macaulay (4), and Riley (1), with his spouse, Sarah—expressed his enthusiasm, stating:
“I’m so excited and beyond honoured to join the voice cast for this all-new original film from the iconic animation studio. I mean, who isn’t a Pixar fan? It means everything to me that my kids will be able to hear their dad’s voice on the big screen.”
In a separate highlight, JLS made headlines last weekend with a surprise appearance at Capital’s Summertime Ball. The group—comprising Aston Merrygold, Oritsé Williams, Marvin Humes, and JB Gill—delivered an unannounced performance that delighted the audience, following in the tradition of past surprise acts such as Craig David and Perrie Edwards.
Sporting coordinated denim ensembles, the group performed a medley of their hit singles, including The Club Is Alive, She Makes Me Wanna, Beat Again, and Everybody in Love.
Commenting on the performance, the band stated:
“It’s been 16 years since our first Capital’s Summertime Ball, and there was no better way to return than by surprising fans with our Barclaycard Out of the Blue performance.
We love sharing the stage together, and to be at such an iconic venue once again was just incredible. Hearing 80,000 people singing back every word to us was a moment we’ll never forget.”#newsafro_
