Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, representing Ondo South Senatorial District, has donated ₦10 million to traders affected by the fire incident at the Caring Heart Market in Okitipupa, Ondo State.
The senator, accompanied by traditional rulers from the district, visited the site on Thursday to assess the damage and sympathize with the affected traders.
The fire, which occurred at midnight on December 12, destroyed fewer than 18 shops stocked with frozen foods and other goods valued at over ₦50 million.
Senator Ibrahim expressed his commitment to supporting the traders in rebuilding their businesses and urged other stakeholders to assist in alleviating the losses.
Upon realizing that the extent of the destruction could have been minimized if water had been available at the market, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim promised to drill a solar-powered borehole and install solar-powered lamps at the Caring Heart Market. This initiative aims to improve the market’s infrastructure and help prevent future disasters, ensuring that traders have better access to water and lighting for safety and convenience.
“I want to express my sympathy to you for the loss of your stalls and shops. I came down here with our traditional rulers immediately I was informed about the fire outbreak to come and see you and assess the gravity of the destruction. Please know that I am here to support you during this difficult time,” Senator Jimoh Ibrahim stated, offering his condolences and expressing his commitment to helping the traders recover from the devastating incident.
