Lena Dunham has made striking claims about life behind the scenes of Girls, alleging that co-star Adam Driver experienced intense on-set outbursts during filming of the hit series.
In a new memoir and accompanying interview, Dunham recalls moments she describes as volatile during rehearsals and production, including an incident where Driver allegedly threw a chair at a wall nearby her and, on another occasion, punched a hole in his trailer wall in frustration.
The actress and creator of Girls said the behavior took place during emotionally charged moments on set and that, at the time, she didn’t feel equipped to challenge it, despite holding creative authority on the show.
She reflected that she once believed such intensity was part of the “great male genius” stereotype, but now views the experience differently as she looks back on her early career in television.
Driver, who played Adam Sackler opposite Dunham’s Hannah Horvath, has not publicly responded to the allegations.
The claims arrive as Dunham promotes her new memoir, which revisits her rise to fame, the pressures of running a groundbreaking HBO series, and the complicated dynamics behind one of television’s most talked-about shows.#newsafro_
