Former St. John’s standout Metta World Peace has dismissed concerns over the team’s NCAA Tournament seeding, confidently predicting a national championship run for his alma mater.
Speaking to TMZ Sports, World Peace criticized the Selection Committee’s decision to place St. John’s Red Storm as a No. 5 seed, arguing the team had performed at a level worthy of a top seed. “It makes no sense,” he said, pointing to their dominant Big East campaign.
St. John’s recently secured a statement victory over UConn Huskies in the Big East Championship at Madison Square Garden — their second win over UConn this season — capping an impressive run that saw them win 21 of 23 conference games.
Despite a challenging tournament path that could include matchups against Northern Iowa Panthers, Kansas Jayhawks, and potentially Duke Blue Devils led by standout Cameron Boozer, World Peace remains unfazed.
He also highlighted the contributions of key players like Zuby Ejiofor, praising the team’s balance of talent, defense, and leadership.
World Peace, who played for St. John’s from 1997 to 1999 before entering the NBA Draft, acknowledged the road ahead won’t be easy — but made it clear he believes the Red Storm will ultimately be “cutting down the nets.”#newsafro_
