Meghan Markle shared an inadvertent moment of awkwardness with Italian designer Pier Paolo Piccioli during her surprise appearance at Paris Fashion Week.
The Duchess of Sussex, 44, accidentally bumped heads with Piccioli—recently appointed as Balenciaga’s creative director—while leaning in for a congratulatory embrace following his presentation of the Spring/Summer 2026 womenswear collection. As she attempted a polite cheek kiss, Meghan’s nose appeared to graze the designer’s sunglasses.
Maintaining composure amid the cameras, Piccioli laughed off the incident, clasped Meghan’s hand, and guided her into a photo opportunity. The Duchess responded gracefully, thanking him before concluding the exchange with a brief hug.
A spokesperson for the Duchess later stated that Meghan has “long admired Mr. Piccioli’s craftsmanship and modern elegance.”
Throughout the evening, Meghan was seen warmly greeting industry figures including Vogue’s global editorial director, Anna Wintour, and filmmaker Baz Luhrmann.
She exuded understated sophistication in an oversized white cape paired with a matching button-down shirt and trousers, complemented by black pointed-toe heels, minimal jewelry, and a sleek bun hairstyle.
The event marked Meghan’s debut at Paris Fashion Week and her first visit to Europe since attending the 2023 Invictus Games in Düsseldorf, Germany.
Other notable attendees included actress Anne Hathaway—currently filming The Devil Wears Prada 2—and Lauren Sánchez, who recently wed Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.
True to her influencer style, the Duchess shared clips on Instagram showing her walk to the Balenciaga show in her monochrome ensemble, followed by footage of Paris illuminated at night, filmed from her car. In one video, she was seen resting her feet on the vehicle’s leather interior.
Prior to her appearance, crowds had gathered outside Meghan’s hotel hoping to catch a glimpse of the royal. Prince Harry was notably absent, while Meghan was accompanied by her security detail en route to the event.#newsafro_
